NFR Nationals Finals Rodeo, or known
as the "Super Bowl of Rodeo" is the rodeo championship
event help every year, during the first week of December, at the
Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The NFR National
Finals Rodeo is put on by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Assocaition
(PRCA). The PRCA established the NFR in 1958, in order to
make sure they could crown a rodeo champion in each of it's different
classes, which are: calf roping, saddle bronc riding, bareback bronc
riding, steer wrestling, bull riding, and team roping. The National
Finals Rodeo showcases the top 15 money-earners/winners in each
of the different classes.
Quick History of the NFR:
1959-1961 - first NFR held in Dallas, Texas - stayed there
until 1961
1962-1964 - believe it or not, Los Angelese hosted the event.
1965 -1984 - Oklahoma City won the bid and brought the NFR
to the OK State. In 1965 the State Fair Arena drew in 47,027 fans,
making it one of the largest rodeos every held at that time.
1985-present - Viva Las Vegas. Las Vegas is proud
to have the NFR, and it has become a staple of the Las Vegas culture
come late Novemeber, early December to see the Cowboys & Cowgirls
taking over the strip. The Thomas & Mack Center is where
the NFR currently calls home. There are more than 170,000 in Vegas
for the 10-day event.

Info tidbits:
The NFR takes over the Thomas & Mack Center for much
of the month of December, which forces the UNLV Basketball team
to be on the road for quiet some time. Also, the special dirt used
for the NFR events, is stored on the UNLV campus during the NFR
off-season. hmmm

The NFR National Finals Rodeo is the final PRCA event of the
year and 8 World Champions are crowned, one for each class.

Heeler), Saddle bronc riding,Tie-down roping,Bull riding& Barrel
racing(no men allowed)
